The incidence of dementia is increasing as the population ages. 48,000 New Zealanders were diagnosed with dementia, in 2011 and this is expected to rise to 147,000 by 2050 (Alzheimers NZ). There are even more who remain undiagnosed.

Older people continue to worship in many of our churches in greater numbers than any other age group. It is therefore reasonable to expect that a significant number of these people will have mild-moderate dementia.

Currently about 80 people live in a secure and caring environment where only one family lived before. The lovely grounds of the once splendid house are maintained in all their previous glory providing peace and tranquillity for all who live and work here, right in the centre of Christchurch.
